The wild of New Hampshire’s Great North Woods is waking up to a new world of possibilities. As the thaw unlocks fresh beauty and pristine vistas to explore, excitement is also stirring at Bear Rock Adventures—that’s because OHRV rentals and Bear Rock Adventures Camping begins in May!

Up here, the summer season rewards the adventurous spirit with endless surprises around every bend. From adorable animal sightings to dreamy sunset viewings, a day exploring the expanse around Bear Rock Adventures is ripe with the kind of stuff that makes lasting memories—and did we mention miles upon miles of trails? To get you started, we’ve mapped out what a perfect first day out on the trails could look like, as well as some tips on dressing for the season, and new features on our brand-new Polaris vehicles.

Adventure from Sunrise to Sunset

Every good adventure begins with breakfast. Exploring New Hampshire’s Great North Woods takes energy, but luckily, we’ve got you covered. If you’re staying as a guest at the Bear Rock Lodge, kickstart your day with a strong cup of coffee and a hearty meal at Full Send Bar & Grill. Full Send’s motto, “Here, you’re family,” covers how you’re greeted and how you eat—like a big happy family. From breakfast bennys to carb plates, you can’t go wrong. If you’re staying at Bear Rock Camping, head to Mostly Muffins for over 25 varieties of freshly-baked muffins and egg sandwiches, sure to satisfy anyone’s morning hunger (and sweet tooth)!

Now that you’re properly fueled up, it’s time to jump into your 2 seat Polaris RZR or 4-seat side by side rental for the first adventure of the day. One of the best morning rides is up to Dixville Peak, where you’ll find towering windmills in the Granite Reliable Wind Farm. Enjoy extensive mountain views underneath the wind turbines and use your perch to get your bearings on the surrounding area. If you’re staying at the Bear Rock Lodge, we recommend the same destination—or a shorter route out to our Bear Rock Camping location to explore the wild all around.

From there, set a course for a bonanza of beautiful spots. Beaver Brook Falls boasts an incredible waterfall, Nathan Pond is perfect for dropping in a line, and education can be had at the Metallak Historical Site, where you’ll learn about an important Native American figure from the area’s history.

Lunch calls and options abound. In Pittsburg, make a beeline for Grampy’s Drive In, where all the locals dine and you can find mouth-watering burgers, grinders, ribs and lots of poutine. In Colebrook, swing into Black Bear Tavern for fresh, flavorful meals and daily specials in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Now that lunch is settled, head back out for one last run. Two incredible options await the adventurous. Journey out in your 2 seat Polaris RZR or 4-seat side by side rental to Sugar Hill—one of New Hampshire’s best-kept secrets—where you’ll uncover views into beautiful Canada. Or, head over to Diamond Pond, where you can spend some tranquil time bird-watching loons and eagles—and even take a dip if you’re feeling extra wild. On both of these rides, make sure to keep an eye out for other local fauna, including deer, moose, fox and so much more. Once back at the Lodge or your campsite, watch the sunset and catch a glimpse of sparkling fireflies that light up the ground at dusk.

Cap off an incredible day back in Pittsburg with a few rounds at either The Buck Rub Pub or nearby Black Bear Tavern in Colebrook. At both spots, you’ll find friendly faces, perfect pints and a bounty of delicious food to choose from.

That’s just one day with Bear Rock Adventures—imagine a proper vacation! Book now to secure your spot for a day ride or stay with us for a stay and play package.

Demystify How You Outfit the Season

This time of year, it’s a bit tricky when it comes to outfitting, mostly due to the fact that weather can be unpredictable (we believe this adds to the excitement!). All-weather clothing is your best bet, as well as traditional layering techniques. Option for water-proof clothing, from your layers to your boots. And make sure to pack gloves and hats in case the mornings and evenings are a bit chilly. Eye protection is also a must. We recommend wearing sunglasses if you’re out alone, or goggles on a group ride to help block dust from vehicles in front of you.

Don’t have what you need? We’ve got you covered! Our Bear Rock Outdoor Adventure Store has everything you’ll need, including brands like BOG Boots, Klim, 509 and Frogg Toggs. Shop all your seasonal gear and always keep an eye out for discounts.

Explore the Outdoors on New Polaris Models

There’s nothing like taking a first summer ride on a brand-new machine, and we have plenty of ATV rentals in Pittsburg NH. At Bear Rock, our Polaris fleet includes 2022 models to help maximize your experience and give you the best—from outdoor fun to the machine that brought you there.
